Sporlan heat reclaim valve, 3-way, 7/8 inch ODF solder connections, supplied with the 24/50-60JAQ MKC-1 coil assembly. Sporlan is the Parker Hannifin refrigeration controls brand and the long-standing standard for commercial refrigeration valves, TXVs, and heat reclaim controls. A 3-way heat reclaim valve diverts hot discharge gas from the compressor to a heat reclaim exchanger when reclaim demand is present, then redirects flow back to the normal condenser once that demand is satisfied. Typical service includes supermarket and convenience store refrigeration racks with domestic hot water reclaim, cold storage plants recovering waste heat for building heat, and process refrigeration where heat recovery is engineered into the cycle. What is included: - Sporlan 8D7B-HP 3-way heat reclaim valve body, 7/8 in ODF - 24/50-60JAQ MKC-1 coil assembly, 277 V single phase - Original packaging Direct replacement for existing 8D7B-HP installations. Also cross-listed under the Parker-Sporlan P8D7B-HP designation. New surplus, available from King Surplus inventory in Del Rio, Texas.
REFRIGERANT: the valve body is a flow-diverting device and is not charged for any one refrigerant, so it serves the common CFC, HCFC and HFC refrigerants. What the refrigerant DOES determine is the pressure rating you need, and that is what the HP suffix is about: Sporlan builds this family as both 8D and 8D-HP, the HP being the high-pressure version required for high-pressure refrigerants such as R-410A. This unit is the HP build. Read the maximum rated pressure off the valve nameplate to confirm, since we are not publishing a figure we cannot source to Parker literature for this exact model. For reference, Parker rates the closely related S8D7B-HP at 450 psi. Manufacturer: Sporlan Division, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Washington, Missouri, USA Model: 8D7B-HP Alternate designation: P8D7B-HP under Parker-Sporlan branding Type: 3-way heat reclaim valve What the designation means: 8D for the series, 7 for the connection size in eighths of an inch (7/8 in), B for the Type B design, HP for the high-pressure build. WHAT TYPE B BUYS YOU: the Type B design eliminates the need for a separate solenoid valve on systems that require idle condenser pump out. That is a real installation cost saving and it is the reason to choose a B over a non-B. When the pilot valve is de-energized, the upper pilot port opens the cavity above the piston to suction, which lets the idle reclaim condenser pump out through a small bleed hole in the piston until it reaches suction pressure. HOW IT SWITCHES: coil DE-ENERGIZED sends refrigerant to the NORMAL condenser. Coil ENERGIZED diverts refrigerant to the RECLAIM condenser. FAILURE MODE, worth knowing: the pilot valve is 2-way and normally closed, so on electrical failure or coil failure the main valve fails to the REFRIGERATION mode, meaning flow to the normal condenser. The system keeps refrigerating and loses heat reclaim, which is the safe direction to fail. IMPORTANT PIPING LIMIT: when the pilot valve is de-energized the flow of discharge gas is completely blocked off through the reclaim port. These valves can therefore only be applied off a DISCHARGE HEADER, never in the main discharge line. Connections: 7/8 in ODF solder, extended copper. The valve has four connections, being compressor discharge, suction, reclaim condenser and normal condenser. It must be installed with the connections in the correct flow direction. MOUNTING REQUIREMENT: install horizontal or vertical with the COIL LEVEL WITH OR ABOVE THE VALVE BODY. Do not mount it coil-down. Body material: powder coated steel, which is standard for the 8D, 12D and 16D series. Seating: synthetic. Coil assembly on this unit: MKC-1, 24 V, 50/60 Hz, ordering code 24/50-60JAQ. 10 watts, Class F insulation. A coil using the MKC-1 may be applied on fluids or gases up to 240 F (116 C) with a valve ambient up to 120 F (49 C). COIL VOLTAGE, PLEASE CONFIRM BEFORE ORDERING: this record has carried a conflicting 277 V figure alongside the 24 V coil assembly code. Those cannot both be right and we are not going to guess. Sporlan prints the electrical specifications on the face plate of the coil assembly. Ask us and we will read the faceplate and send you a photograph. Serial and lot on this unit: 4421 / 29821 Optional feature: a 1/2 in conduit boss is available on this family Capacity rating basis: 100 F (38 C) condensing temperature, isentropic compression plus 50 F, evaporator temperature plus 25 F superheat suction gas. Ratings are in accordance with ARI Standard No. 760-80. HEAD PRESSURE CONTROL IS NOT OPTIONAL: when you run heat reclaim, head pressure control has to be added, not only to hold liquid pressure at the expansion valve inlet but to guarantee quality hot gas is available at the reclaim heat exchanger. Also budget for the extra pressure differential the diverting valve itself introduces when selecting those controls. Filtration: an adequately sized filter-drier should be installed ahead of the thermostatic expansion valve. On a 3-way valve, dirt can hold a port partially open, and because the seating discs run on a common shaft, both ports then leak. Fusing: Sporlan does not supply fuses. Fuse the hot leg with fast acting fuses per local code and ground the valve through the fluid piping or the electrical conduit. Dimensions and weight of this unit: 8 in x 11 in x 4 in (203 x 279 x 102 mm), 4 lb (1.8 kg) Unit of measure: each Condition: New in Box Source: Parker Sporlan Bulletin 30-20, April 2007, and Bulletin 30-21, May 2016, for 3-way valve operation, Type B pump out, models, mounting, capacity basis, filtration and fusing.
